about Marivi Veliz

María Victoria (Marivi) Véliz started her career as a cultural writer during the late nineties in Havana, Cuba. She received a BA in Art History from Havana University (1999) and moved to Guatemala in 2003. There she worked as an editor and copy editor for Magna Terra editores and Punto Mandarina S.A. In 2006, she was awarded with a Fundación Carolina fellowship to complete a training for Ibero American publishers at the Complutense University in Madrid. Between 2008-2010, she became a cultural journalist for the newspaper Diario de Centroamerica while also writing for art magazines and catalogs throughout Central America. Since 2012, Véliz has been based in Miami. Her articles and essays have been featured in Revista Escena, Revista Arterias, Artecubano, Arte al Día, Miami Rail, Infrasónica, Plaza Pública, among others. In 2021, she obtained a Ph.D. in Literary, Linguistics and Cultural Studies from the University of Miami.
