January 3, 2011 If you’ve seen any music videos lately, you’ve seen Teresa Barcelo and her fresh choreography, sizzling to Sean Kingston’s “Fire Burnin'” (and during his guest appearance on So You Think You Can Dance) and poppin’, lockin’, and rump-shakin’ to Sean Paul’s “So Fine.” Home girl’s got skills on the dance floor and up in the sky, where she’s performed aerial tissue as a spider in the Circo de los Horrores. A member of the all-female b-girl crew HeartBreakerz, she’s no stranger to the concert stage where she blew audiences away in Camposition’s production of Kitchen Monkey and with her own show, Z Minus. Born and trained in Miami at the New World School of the Arts, she’s bicoastal these days, showing off her work at Hollywood’s Carnival, a monthly “choreographer’s ball.” But she still calls Miami home. 1. List five things that inspire you. -Sound -Monsters -Love -Unicorns -Everything 2. What was your last big project? A collaboration between two poppers and I for Carnival: Choreographers Ball in Los Angeles. The piece was about abuse in which Boogie Frantic and Jon Boogz depict two kids in similar abusive situations and I am their “conscience” for lack of a better word, who comes in from the sky. The piece blends aerial tissue and contemporary/popping dance styles. 3. What’s your next big project? My next big project?… is actually very tiny. I’m working on animating my little monsters, called “Booshies.” It’s full out choreography, but done by six-inch plush monsters I make myself, using stop motion animation. The piece is called “Red pink elephant banana fibs.” 4. Why do you do what you do? Because it excuses my crazy woman hormonal fluctuations. I think. But seriously, I do it because I have to do it. 5. What’s something you want Miami to know about you? I want Miami to know that it is a magical place that creates amazing people. A little insane, but none the less amazing artists with sazon (spice). What’s something you don’t want Miami to know about you? I don’t want Miami to know that I’ve been cheating on her with a girl named Cali on the other side of the country.
