A Look At The Season of Dance

For the second consecutive year, the uncertainty caused by the announcement of budget cuts is the underlying theme of Miami’s dance season programming.
Still, interesting creative proposals abound, and this is a brief—not exhaustive, due to time and space constraints—guide for the 2025-26 period, based on the information currently available on local and visiting companies.
LOCAL COMPANIES

Miami City Ballet (MCB)
“Peck: Miami in Motion,” Oct. 17-19. A program featuring three choreographies by Justin Peck: “Year of the Rabbit,” “Chutes and Ladders,” and “Heatscape.”
George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker,” Dec. 12-28. Performances with live orchestra (21 total) and an immersive pre-show experience created in collaboration with MAD Arts, Dania Beach.
“Into the Magic City,” Feb. 20-22, 2026. Featuring a revival of George Balanchine’s “Serenade” and a world premiere by Alexei Ratmansky. Live orchestra.
“Jewels,” March 27-29. A Balanchine masterpiece and a crowd favorite.
“Carmen,” March 26-28. The return of Annabelle López Ochoa’s version, and, for the first time, with a live orchestra.

Fall Program, Nov. 8 (Moss Center, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay), with three world premieres, including one by Yanis Eric Pikieris.
Ballet in the Gardens, Jan. 31, 2026 (Pinecrest Gardens, 1000 Red Road, Pinecrest), featuring works that complement the tropical landscape.
Love in the Air, Feb. 14 (Sanctuary of the Arts, 410 Andalusia Ave., Coral Gables), featuring DDTM’s most romantic repertoire and the premiere of “Fases” by Rafael Ruiz del Vizo.
Salon Series, Mar. 6-8 (Moss Center, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay). An intimate look at the creative process, with the choreographers developing works for DDTM.
Latin Night. Apr. 18 (Sanctuary of the Arts, 410 Andalusia Ave., Coral Gables), featuring ballets inspired by Latin culture, including the premiere of “Till Death Do Us Part” by Melissa Verdecia and excerpts from “Tangos del Plata” by Leonardo Reale.
Summer Dances and 2 Pianos, Jul. 11 (Moss Center, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay). A DDTM collaboration with Dranoff 2 Piano Fusion, featuring the premiere of “There, Never There” by DaYoung Jung, and live musical accompaniment by piano duo Stephanie & Saar.

Fall Performance, in November (6th Street Dance Studio, 1155 SW 6th St., Miami). Forced to dismantle the studio due to the building’s renovation, Brigid Baker plans to present one last work there before Thanksgiving as a farewell.
Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida (ABTF)
“Firebird,” Oct. 11. With a program that includes “Glinka Suite Fantastique,” “Talisman Pas de Deux,” and “Double Quaver” by Vicente Nebrada.
“The Nutcracker,” Dec. 11–14. Including a sensory-inclusive performance on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m., designed especially for children and adults with sensory sensitivities.
“Dr. Ouch!,” Mar. 7–8, 2026. A presentation of its Family Series.
Spring Gala, May 3. Featuring Yanis Pikieris’s “Danzón,” “La Traviata Pas de Deux,” “Shostakovich Suites,” “Tarde en la Siesta” (by Cuban choreographer Alberto Méndez), and the premiere of “Polovtsian Dances,” a work by Maestro Vladimir Issaev for 32 dancers.
