‘Pulse Points’ Pays Tribute to Victims of Orlando Pulse Nightclub Massacre

Serving as the lead cultural event during the 10-day global World Outgames Miami 2017 is Pulse Points, an artistic response to the Orlando massacre at the Pulse Nightclub last June.

Billed as an experiential memorial, the four-hour event will fuse elements of dance, poetry, music, and visual arts via 49 artistic expressions in remembrance of the 49 lives lost during the massacre.

The line-up of performers, curated by choreographers and dancers Octavio Campos and Cameron Basden, will kick off with a performance from the Orlando Gay Chorus.

Joining in the moving tribute are various other groups from around Miami, from individual artists and writers to members of the music and dance community.

Performing on June 1 will be dancers/choreographers Dale Andree, Pioneer Winter, Mosaic Dance Project, Dance Now! Miami, Augusto Soledade Brazzdance, and Ray Sullivan.

The taiko drum group Fushu Daiko add their unique sound that blends jazz and rhythms of Japan to create their musical art form. DJ and drag queen Adora provides entertainment, the Biscayne Poet Oscar Fuentes recites work, as will Reading Queer; the South Florida Pride Woodwind Quintet and Miami Gay Men’s Chorus both perform, visual and performance artist David Rohn and the multidisciplinary ensemble Camposition led by Octavio Campos will also take to the stage, among many others. The entire line-up is on the website.

“World OutGames celebrates unity and inclusiveness, and we are proud to present Pulse Points as an artistic tribute to a tragic time in history,” said World OutGames Miami Director of Cultural Arts Carol Coombes. “This will be a space free of racism and bias that will transform negativity into a courageous forward direction, sending a global message of compassion, hope and love.”

The fully-immersive event will transform the iconic New World Center into an interactive, roving exhibition, offering a perpetual expression of reflection, empathy, healing, and positive action.

Pulse Points: 49 Lives, 49 Artists, Thursday, June 1, 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., New World Center, 500 17th St., Miami Beach. Tickets are $29 for seniors, students and City of Miami Beach residents with valid ID; $40 for general admission and $140 for VIP access, which includes an intimate rooftop cocktail reception from 6 to 8 p.m. See all details on the website at http://www.outgames.org/culture/pulse_points/pulse_points
