Copper Fest spices up the week with celebration of Cuban arts

The Copperbridge Foundation is hosting Copper Fest, a week-long celebration throughout Miami of Cuban visual arts, dance and music with a focus on the island’s African roots and their influence on its rich cultural landscape.

The festival is brimming with workshops, dance and music performances, master dance classes, lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, gallery openings and a dinner fundraiser.

The jam-packed schedule keeps the rhythm and beat of Cuba by highlighting:

  • Afro-Cuban dance
  • Yoruba Roots & Practices as well as Contemporary Yoruba
  • A master dance class with Cuba’s leading avant garde company DanzAbierta
  • Concerts by Sintesis considered Cuba’s top Afro-Cuban rock band fusing rock with African melodies and poetry
  • An educational workshop by jewelry maker and artist Donna Freeman on the spiritual significance of her pieces
  • A film screening of Oshun’s 11 telling the story of a spiritual journey of 11 Americans flying from Miami to Havana to learn about the Orishas religion

The hosting non-profit organization Copperbridge Foundation was founded to serve the public through the acquisition, conservation, exhibition and interpretation of significant works from a broad range of influential cultures, with an emphasis on Cuba.

The festival takes place at various venues throughout Miami through Sept. 11. Click here for the full schedule.
