The Making of ‘Bare Bones’

Written By Carlos Ochoa
January 6, 2018 at 7:51 PM

‘Bare Bones’ by Carlota Pradera in collaboration with Lazaro Godoy is the last in this season’s experimental Sandbox Series at Miami Theater Center. Described as is an experimental dance performance that employs movement and a visual installation to analyze power dynamics among individuals and cultures. The work questions divisive lines of man-made borders that alienate families, lovers, friends, and political enemies. It examines the distance invading our cultures and social behaviors, creating a world in which touch is becoming an endangered sense and fear is becoming the predominant vehicle for communication.

Other collaborations in the piece include work from video artist Juan Carlos Zaldivar, live music from Juraj Kojs and design lighting from Alexey Taran.

Information [From press release]

Back by popular demand, Dance NOW! Miami returns to the Bass Museum of Art for the fourth year of The EKPHRASIS Project, presenting poignant and edgy work based on the current exhibitions. The migrating, site-specific event is a unique dance & art experience conceived and created by DNM Directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini not only resonating with the art, but also presenting dance in unlikely locations, reflecting the architecture of the museum. This year’s Ekphrasis project will focus on the video exhibition of Eve Sussman, Rape of the Sabine Women, a contemporary reinterpretation of the eponyous Roman Legend. Salterini and Baumgarten will weave live dance throught the upstairs gallery drawing from and reflecting this brilliant 1960’s reinactment of the ancient tale.

Pentimento, homage to Venezuelan choreographer Vicente Nebrada.

Written By Carlos Ochoa
December 29, 2017 at 7:50 PM

[From press release]
Pentimento, created by choreographer Vicente Nebrada, includes excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Four Suites for Orchestra. The ballet is a bold, abstract work that is based on the art form of painting called pentimento. The artist changes his or her mind about the composition of his painting during the process of painting, and then changes it. This ballet applies the same approach to dance: the concept for the dances and costumes change throughout the performance. Using masks, flowing fabric and creative lighting to create a mystical effect, the piece develops through layers of movement, color and light. Adding to mystical effects is original costuming by Cristina Gianinni.
Shows are October 12,13 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts – Amaturo Theater; and October 19 & 20 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center
