“Me & My Miami” Represents Music and Dance Culture of the Magic City

There are so many ways to characterize Miami, but you could say that its essence is best found in the music and dance that stem from its rich mix of cultures. “Me & My Miami,” a coming-of-age, workshop theater production written, directed and choreographed by Patdro Harris, will celebrate Miami culture in this community-centric performance.

Hosted at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, the new musical was commissioned by Brévo Theatre. The play highlights the lives and perspectives of three high school students (Rosa, Faquan and Thomas), ages 14-17, selected to showcase their art at the Dade County Arts Festival. They share their perspectives on family and the city they love;  when family secrets are revealed, they have a powerful, healing experience that reshapes them.

“We are really excited to share this production with our community because it will also be important to see how the families react to certain experiences and how they’re able to grow and evolve,” says Zaylin Yates, co-founder of Brévo Theatre.

This production gives Miami audiences an opportunity to see the new work of internationally recognized Broadway director, choreographer and writer Patdro Harris.

Harris was the lead dancer and choreographer for Stevie Wonder and performed with the SOS Band, Yolanda Adams, and India Arie, among others. Additionally, he choreographed Toni Morrison’s world premiere opera, “Margaret Garner.” This new production showcases all three of his master talents.

When: May 18 at 3 p.m. The workshop will also include a talk back and Q&A with the director following the show from 4:30 – 5:00 PM.
