Video Culture Shock Miami Presents The YOU Review: The Royale

Video Description

At the height of the Jim Crow era, Jack Johnson was the first to earn the title of African-American heavyweight champion. He was the inspiration for this play. Without any direct face-to-face combat, the actors create the brutality of boxing and relate an early chapter in the history of achieving racial equality in American sports.

Culture Shock Miami students attended the Sunday, June 12 performance at GableStage and shared their impressions.

Produced for Culture Shock Miami by Kay and Stephen Belth, Arts Marketing Network
